Veterans Affairs Hospital of Philadelphia

The Veterans Administration has focused on improving Community Living Centers on their hospital campuses. A 50,000 sf interior renovation could not support all 136 senior veterans, so a 10,000 sf addition was designed to complete the functional program needs and reorganize the interior flow. The new addition provides a two-story flowing glass façade housing activity space and quiet rooms. The underside of the glass addition and the landscape wall will be fully illuminated to display the lantern above. The second story dementia unit will be connected, allowing patients to meander through a variety of spaces including a 3,000 sf healing garden - one of many sustainable strategies throughout.
