The original location of Big Buns was designed by Architecture, Inc. and featured birch plywood and bright green ductwork. The burger restaurant eventually expanded to a second location while evolving the original design concept. Since being acquired by Thompson Hospitality, the design continued to evolve, and has since been implemented at multiple locations—with several more on the way. Architecture, Inc. has completed three locations ranging from 1,900 sf – 3,300 sf with programs that adapt to the unique conditions of each location. Artwork and finishes are the consistent design elements: hand-painted murals, polished concrete floors, porcelain tile and whitewashed brick walls, brightly painted ductwork, and distinctive exposed conduit lighting. All Big Buns locations feature counter and kiosk ordering as well as outdoor dining, with larger restaurants featuring a full bar with counter seating. Quartz counters and galvanized metal on the bar front lend an industrial aesthetic to the casual space.
