Florida Gulf Coast University Outdoor Sports Complex
Fort Myers, FL
These four stadiums are integrated among the expansive natural landscape of the university. The existing baseball and softball stadiums have been enlarged, using a tensile fabric overhang to emphasize the action on the field as a focal point. The steep angle for the soccer stadium generates a feeling of integration between the fans and the players while still allowing a wide view of the field. The interconnected structure over the tennis courts becomes a dynamic element allowing one to engage each individual court while still allowing for ease of movement throughout the complex itself. The entrance structure, while creating a gateway for automotive traffic, produces a visual separation between the athletic complex and the rest of the university.
