The Arlo Hotel is Coming to D.C.

Wednesday, April 10, 2024

After over four years of development, the Arlo, a prominent hotel brand, has appointed Cordell Nelson, a seasoned hospitality professional familiar with the D.C. area, as its new general manager. Nelson will be responsible for overseeing operations at the forthcoming 445-room Arlo Washington, D.C. being designed by Architecture, Inc., located near Judiciary Square at 333 G St. NW, scheduled to open this autumn.

This establishment marks the seventh addition to the Arlo brand, known for its New York lifestyle concept, with existing locations in New York, Chicago, and Miami. London-based Quadrum Global owns both the brand and the property. Nelson, a Howard University graduate, commenced his career in D.C. at the Hilton Garden Inn and Kimpton's Hotel Rouge before moving to New York in 2012 to join the Waldorf Astoria. He joined Arlo Hotels in 2016, assuming his first general manager position at Arlo NoMad in 2019, followed by a stint as GM at Arlo SoHo.

The Arlo DC is a new 12-story, 445-room hotel that will incorporate the District’s oldest surviving apartment building, the 1888 Harrison apartments. The historic structure’s exterior walls and cast iron supported masonry vaults will be restored and the deteriorated wood floors and roof replaced. When complete, perched on Judiciary Square in the heart of Northwest DC, the LEED certified Arlo DC hotel will be a mix of two eras, juxtaposing old with new, and will feature Arlo’s trademark contemporary guestrooms and generous public areas.

The restored Harrison building will boast guestrooms and suites with exposed brick walls and vaulted ceilings, rooftop patios, along with a ground floor bar, lounge and meeting rooms fronting 3rd Street. The new 12-story addition will feature guestrooms and suites, a premier restaurant and bar, interior courtyard, fitness center, neighborhood bodega, additional retail space, and a breathtaking rooftop lounge, penthouse, and outdoor pool with views across Judiciary Square to the monuments beyond.

Architecture, Inc. also worked with Arlo to masterplan the full city block project, incorporating their unique brand standards (efficient rooms, oversize public amenities) across a very challenging site.
