Mellow Mushroom - Virginia Beach received an Award of Merit in the "Best Restaurant/Eatery/Bar" Category of the 2023 HRACRE Excellence in Development Design Awards. The design of the beachside 4,700 sf Mellow Mushroom draws from the Bossa Nova music scene and surrounding culture of mid-century Rio de Janeiro and the iconic Copacabana Beach. The project incorporated the adaptive reuse of the existing hotel indoor & outdoor pools facing Virginia Beach’s main thoroughfare on Atlantic Avenue.

Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate established the awards to identify, encourage and reward excellence in development design. HRACRE provides a unified voice for the commercial real estate industry in Hampton Roads by educating its members on relevant issues, advocating for local, regional and statewide legislative initiatives, promoting economic development.
