The co-located Maryvale Elementary School/Carl Sandburg Learning Center was awarded the “Excellence in Construction” award in the Educational category by ABCMetroWashington. The annual Metropolitan Washington Excellence in Construction awards program honors the outstanding quality construction produced by members of Associated Builders and Contractors’ Metro Washington and Virginia chapters.
The Montgomery County Public Schools facility is a new 178,500 sf school designed for two student populations. The Maryvale Elementary School is designed for 600 K-5 students, while the Carl Sandburg Learning Center provides special education instruction to 150 students. The building’s exterior is designed to appear as a single facility with two distinct entrances differentiated by color. The project achieved LEED Silver.
